I have updated many Vista PCs and the Restore points were never touched so if something has cleared them, I seriously doubt it was the SP2 update. I installed Vista Business (VL) as an upgrade to XPsp2 machine. Several functions may not work. How old is your installation?   Try Doing a System Restore to as Factory as you can get it and download the Sp1 standalone.
