So I removed the HD from the BIOS setup (changed IDE1 to "none") unable to get BIOS to register the HD again, I flashed the BIOS, again with the same version. I am now wondering if there was anything in the BIOS that could be causing this to happen. For some years I have been successfully using Acronis True Image to either create and restore images of partitions, or to do a complete clone of my drives.
